Warning

Requires a USB-A to USB-C cable for power.  Will not work with a USB-C to USB-C cable.

16 Channel V1.1

16ch-v1.1 is based on an ESP32-WROOM, using a CH340C (drivers) for it's USB->UART bridge, and is powered by a USB-C connector. Outputs are grouped in blocks and identified on the silkscreen which 2-pin outputs (single colour) are shared with 4-pin outputs (RGB).

Effects

Various effects are available in ESPHome, which are explained in the documentation, some of these are included in the code examples already. For flickering torch effects, the default flicker intensity (of 1.5%) will want to be increased. The demo video above, and the example configuration has flicker set at 10%.

Compatibility

LEDBrickHome is compatible with lighting kits that use a JST SUR connector with 5V on pin 1, and switched 0V on pin 2 (plus pins 3 & 4 for RGB connectors).

The below table shows the results of our testing. You should verify connector type and pinout yourself for your own project.

Light System Compatible? Notes
Light My Bricks V1
Light My Bricks V2 Swapped to a flat ribbon style connector
Briksmax V1
Briksmax V2 Similar but not compatible with JST SUR

2 pin JST SUR connector

4 pin JST SUR connector Note, order of Red, Green and Blue channels is not important and can be changed in your configuration file.

Configuration

Devices come pre-programmed with a configuration set-up for 16 single colour output channels, the configuration YAML is available in the Github repo

Tips

  • Do not add the web server to the code, this seems to cause the ESPHome to reboot regularly.
  • Boot and Reset buttons are included, but shouldn't be required for programming
  • RGB outputs may need their output channels swapping if the colour mapping is wrong. i.e. if you ask for Red but get Green, change the appropriate lines in your configuration file.
